The unique call of sandhill cranes high in the sky means the leaves are turning and cold weather is coming soon. So is the annual Festival of the Cranes at the Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge November 13-18, 2012. Enjoy tours, workshops, hikes, a wildlife art show, and a Wildlife Zone with activities for kids. The great photo here was taken by Jerry Goffe of USFWS.
Each morning at sunrise, thousands of birds lift off from the river and surrounding area to forage all day in surrounding fields and feeding areas. While you may not want to get up that early for the "blast off," you may wish to end the day at sunset by watching the birds come back to the Refuge to rest for the night.
I’m having fun--come on along!Kathy
