It’s time to tell you all the great things about today’s bed & breakfasts that Madison Avenue doesn’t want you to know. Today we received the following request for participation in this promotion:
Mother’s Day Mom/Daughter Getaway story idea: [marketing company name] knows that today's moms are younger-minded, active, fit and healthy. For Mother's Day, forget blueberry pancakes in bed or a charming B&B stay. Today's moms want to get out there and celebrate life! Today's moms are more active, younger, sexier, hipper, etc. This isn't your grandmother's Mother's Day activity.
[marketing company name] is looking for packages that might feature something really outdoorsy (like mountain climbing or hang-gliding) or untraditional (like botox/detox spa packages).
This is the battle we fight every day, from marketing companies who dismiss bed & breakfasts and encourage everyone to stay in hotels to the travelers who have never even heard of a bed & breakfast or inn. The Professional Association of Innkeepers International, our national association, has embarked on a marketing campaign to increase awareness of bed & breakfasts as a lodging option. Put simply, bed & breakfasts are--for many reasons--a Better Way to Stay.
You can find just about anything you want in a B&B, from historic homes to sleek and modern lofts, fishing camps to lighthouses. Amenities include everything from jetted tubs to saunas, beach-front locations and in-room massages, bicycles and even canoes and sailboats for guest use. B&B owners are far more knowledgeable about local events and experiences than any hotel concierge. You want outdoorsy activities? How about hot air ballooning, flying in a glider plane, white water rafting, horseback riding, spectacular golf, skiing and snowboarding, surfing and windsurfing. And we know that you--today’s traveler--want to do exciting things in beautiful places with fabulous amenities.
And in case you’re just as interested in great food as in things to do, “breakfast” is the other half of “bed and breakfast.” We go the extra mile to provide our guests with the very best breakfast possible, from Pumpkin-maple French Toast to homemade jams made with fruit from the B&B’s own orchard, fresh local sausage and cheese, quiche with caught-that-morning crab, and asparagus-Gruyere omelets.
A stay in a B&B isn’t your grandmother’s Mother’s Day activity, either! Bring on those blueberry pancakes!
